World Mental Health Day 2024 - mental health in the workplace

Prioritising mental health shouldn’t be limited to just one day. It needs to be part of a company’s daily commitment to employee wellbeing.

The theme for World Mental Health Day 2024 is mental health in the workplace - a crucial reminder to reflect on how your company supports your wellbeing while at work. At Arvinius Group, we understand the high-pressure nature of target-driven careers in recruitment. What matters most is how we manage that pressure, ensuring our employees’ personal health doesn’t suffer for their professional success.

Over the past decade we have seen significant progress in breaking the stigma around mental health, with terms like “burnout” becoming more widely recognised. There’s a lot of emphasis on companies talking about mental health, especially on awareness days, which helps reduce the stigma around the topic. However, when it comes to truly implementing these strategies into practice, this is far less common. At Arvinius Group, we believe the real key to supporting employees is not just recognising burnout—it’s preventing it altogether. According to Mind UK, 48% of people have left their jobs due to poor mental health, and 60% saw their mental health worsen from work pressures and lack of employer support. These numbers show how challenging it is to recover once burnout takes hold, impacting both employee wellbeing and productivity. The work environment must prioritise wellbeing just as much as productivity to ensure employees can thrive and maintain their effectiveness.

At Arvinius Group, we truly honour this commitment. Our focus on employee well-being extends far beyond acknowledging mental health on a single day. We provide a range of benefits that promote mindfulness outside the office. One of the many activities we participate in regularly is group exercise and team sports, recognising the strong link between regular physical activity and improved mental health. A 2021 survey by Mind UK found that individuals who engaged in regular exercise experienced a 43% reduction in days of poor mental health compared to those who were inactive. We also provide a generous vacation allowance and the opportunity for our employees to work abroad in our global offices, ensuring that everyone at Arvinius Group can maintain a fulfilling life outside of work while pursuing personal goals. This balance ultimately leads to greater productivity during work hours. Additionally, we celebrate our employees’ hard work with an annual company holiday—not as an incentive, but as a sincere expression of gratitude for their dedication and commitment to their roles.

For us, mental health isn’t just a one-day event; it’s a fundamental part of our workplace culture.
